Memorial Day Weekend KFC Demos

Our group will be doing two KFC demonstrations in the month of May during Memorial Day weekend:
May 28th & 29th: 11:30-1:30 2725 Jackson Street, Paducah. Bring yourself, Mandy has all the signs and I have the leafelts.
I hope to have a REALLY good turnout.
Oh, by the way, our June meeting is at 6:00pm on June 6th at the McCracken County Public Library's 2nd Floor.

Unsuccessful

Today was the day for the March of Dimes leafleting event at Bob Noble Park from 8:30-10:00...It was ver unsuccessful, only Crystal and I showed up and we got kicked out after about ten or fifteen minutes. The local head of the March of Dimes was very rude to us in saying that "PETA is never welcome here !" and "If it wasn't for animal testing we wouldn't be here right now". He told us that we had to leave and that anything with PETA on it was not allowed to have any part in the March of Dimes...He was as rude as Jason Watkins ! Besides the local head of M.O.D., everyone else was glad to hear our message. We handed out a few leaflets and earmark stickers and alot of people were glad that we were standing up for the lives of animals and babies. They were also glad that we were letting them know whats going on, and that we encouraged them to still walk but earmark their donation. I think we could've done a better job if we had one or two more people...But oh well, I just hope we get a better turnout for our upcoming KFC demos.

The Hallelujah Diet

If any of you are interested in going vegan, you should check out www.hacres.com, which is the Hallelujah Acres website, a site devoted to information about the Hallelujah Diet. It's pretty extreme, but promises to heal virtually any ailment through diet alone. They follow a strict vegan diet, mainly focusing on raw fruits and vegetables. I tried to follow it for a few weeks before I got pregnant, but it left me hungry, because I eat a lot. Anyway, thought I'd pass that along!

Successful KFC Demonstration !

As you all know, C.A.R.E. recently held a demonstration against the food-chain Kentucky Fried Chickenon Jackson Street in Paducah from 11:30-1:20. Even though it was cold outside we got our message across loud and clear to the citizens of Paducah that cruelty to chickens is NO JOKE. Of course we got the occassional stare and laughs along with some mocking, but other than that, we received positive praise from all the Paducahans. We only had three people at the protest, which I am VERY dissapointed in ! We usually have a great turnout for the meetings, but when it comes to demos people suddenly dissapear...

T-Shirts

As everyone knows, C.A.R.E. is getting t-shirts ! I will be going Monday to River Graphics:

I went over everyone's feedback from the e-mails and the consensus was green shirt with purple writing. The front is going to have a big purple "V" with "Citizens for Animal Rights Education" written in white (it'll show up better). Then on the right sleeve we will have our name, then a purple ribbon with "AR" on it. Then on the back we will have our mission statement, "As citizens for Animal rights education, our mission is to educate the public on animal rights issues, how it effects their everyday life, and what they can do to change animal cruelty. CARE operates on the simple principle that animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for enteratinment."
The T-Shirts will be, if I remember correctly, $10.87....WHAT A DEAL !!!

McVegan Campaign

As you all may know, McDonald's isn't very vegetarian/vegan friendly. THere is a website looking to mimic this, www.vegan.org at the top of the page is an icon for "McVegan" with golden arches. This is a parody of McDonald's where you operate a stand that hands out free vegan burgers, hot dogs, drinks, etc. in order to spread the word about how good vegan food can really be. I was reading through the website checklist of what makes a good place to do it; a place where there was tons of foot traffic was the maine concern. Then it popped into my head...BBQ ON THE RIVER ! There is tons of toor traffic there, and people love to get free food ! I contacted the people at www.vegan.org and they said that they cannot provide us with free food for the event, or free "McVegan" t-shirts. They did say that the people that coordinate National Meat-Out day could provide us with some help and that we could buy McVegan shirts from www.vegan.org for $12.50 each, maybe they could throw in those cool server hats. So, I contacted the people at the meat-out website and they said that the supplier of their food only supplies it for their meat-out day events as a once a year type of thing. The person at the mea-out website told me that we could probably contact BOCA or an other company manufacturing vegan products and tell them how much of a great opportunity this event is to basically PIMP their products. That'd mean we'd probably have to have a big sign saying "all food provided by the ____ company." If you have any suggestions on where to get the food or anything like that, you can e-mail me at VeggieBoy82@aol.com . I was thinking that we could also have some PETA literature on hand to put in people's food bags....just a thought. Anyways, I hope to see everyone at our April meeting !

March of Dimes

As you know, March of Dimes (a health charity dedicated to stopping pre-mature births) performs cruel animal tests. We need to put a stop to this ! I talked with Veronica at PETA (veronicav@peta.org) and she said that the focus of the march of crimes campaign is to get people to put the sticker that says "ear mark my donation for non-animal experiments" on their envelope, so that people can still support march of dimes without all the animal cruelty. So, they are still sending posters, but they say that isn't the most effective way. I don't know when the March of Dimes is coming to Paducah to do a walk, but I know that we have a local chapter office here in Paducah at the following address:

C.A.R.E. stands for "Citizens for Animal Rights Education". We currently meet at the McCracken County Public Library the first Monday of every month. Our next meeting will be March 7th at 6:00pm. The meetings usually last about thirty or fourty minutes. We are a fairly new group with under ten members. So, we are definately looking to grow ! We do one or two demonstrations/protests every month. Some of the things we try to do here at C.A.R.E. are:
+Stop the selling of fur
+Stop KFC's cruelty to chickens
+Get people to spay and neuter pets
+Get people to start getting their pets from shelters.
+Inform the public on the multitude of benefits from switching to a vegetarian/vegan/cruelty free life style.
+Spread the word about Animal Rights in our community
+Make a lasting impact on the way animals are treated
So, as you can see, we at C.A.R.E. have a mission to do and we plan on getting all of this accomplished and more ! So, please come and join us and see all the good you can do for animals around the world.
